Editor:

I couldn’t agree more with Marcia Raley, who wrote a letter to the editor advocating against lowering the voting age (April 12).

The voting age should be 21. At 21 an individual has the right to buy alcohol because it is deemed that a person at that age can think responsibly. No one is legally allowed to buy alcohol before reaching that age and no one younger than 21 years of age should be allowed to vote for the same reason.

Although some young folks are not yet responsible at that age and as Ms. Riley stated, the better age would be 26 or even 27.

Just as no one who is not a U.S. citizen should be allowed to have a say-so in voting. Voting gives a citizen the opportunity to have a say in whom is elected to office and what laws should be applicable in this country. Why would I want a person from another country helping to decide these things in our country?

The only non-citizens allowed in our land should be folks who are legal residents of the U.S. Only those who have applied legally through the proper channels should be allowed to be residents.

This country, thank God, is a country of laws and those laws should be enforced to the full extent. Many officials don’t care to do this. They act like many of us in South Texas.

We should strive to elect officials who are strict enforcers of the laws or else before we know it, no one has any respect for anything or anyone.

Enough of Trump

Editor:

I urge Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz to take note of my concern that Donald Trump as president has caused great harm to this country and people overall. He acts like he is above the law, so I ask that the senators support impeachment proceedings of Donald Trump and let us see the full Mueller report.

I live in Brownsville and Customs and Border Protection has been having shooting practice at the bridges and points of entry that is not appropriate, as that seems to be a scare tactic and makes the U.S. look like a police state.

I urge my elected officials to do something for their constituents in the state of Texas; we’ve had enough of Donald Trump.
