EDINBURG — A former city lifeguard was sentenced to 12 years in prison for being sexually indecent with two minors at a municipal swimming pool in 2014.

Auxiliary Court Judge Romeo Flores sentenced Eddie Guadalupe Rodriguez, 22, on two counts of indecency with a child Tuesday.

The offenses occurred while Rodriguez worked at the South Park swimming pool in 2014, according to information from Hidalgo County officials.

“ He was convicted by a Hidalgo County jury on May 9 and sentenced on June 11,” lead prosecutor Denise Santa Ana said in a news release.

Suspected child abuse can be reported by calling (800) 252-5400. The hotline is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
