EDINBURG — A man accused of killing a coworker and seriously injuring three others during a shooting late last year was formally arraigned in state District Court.

Raul Lopez Saenz, who had worked at the H-E-B at Goodwin Road and U.S. Expressway 83 in Palmview for more than a couple years, stood before state District Judge Rodolfo “Rudy” Delgado.

Family members of victims of the shooting also were present at the hearing.

Hidalgo County Assistant District Attorney Roxanna Salinas read aloud the indictment against Lopez.

The five felony charges against Lopez — murder, three counts of criminal attempted murder and one count of attempted capital murder of multiple persons — are related to the late November shooting caught on video, showing the 25-year-old man firing several rounds into an employee break room occupied by several of his fellow coworkers.

Lopez, a resident of Mission but not a U.S. citizen, pleaded not guilty to all five felony charges through his court-appointed attorney, O. Rene Flores.
