The closures of Boca Chica Beach and State Highway 4 that were scheduled to begin Tuesday have been postponed until the week of June 3.

Cameron County posted notice on its website this week that the closures, which were scheduled for May 28 and in the alternative, May 29 and/or May 30, from 2 to 10 p.m. were no longer planned.

The closures next week are scheduled for June 3 from 2 to 8 p.m. and/or in the alternative on June 4 and/or June 5 from 2 to 8 p.m., the county announced Tuesday.

The county also announced that it has established a hotline for road closure updates. The public can call (956) 548-9541 for information about closures.

SpaceX first began conducting space flight activities in April when Boca Chica Beach and State Highway 4 experienced multiple closures as SpaceX tested its Starship Hopper prototype at the site, culminating in the vessel’s first “hop,” where it lifted off the ground about three feet.

Elon Musk, SpaceX CEO, indicated on Twitter on April 26 that crews in the area were preparing for untethered hover tests.

And on May 20, SpaceX filed an application with the Federal Communications Commission to modify its experimental testing license. That application states that SpaceX has applied for testing that includes flying the hopper vertically from the ground to under 1,640 feet for low-altitude tests and up to 16,404 feet for its high-altitude tests.

The application says the testing would span two years.

SpaceX filed a similar application with the FCC last November with the same language.

Since the last testing, SpaceX crews have continued working on the Starship Hopper prototype.

Photos posted in the SpaceX Boca Chica show that the hopper now has a new nose cone. In January, 50-mph winds blew the upper portion of the vessel over, damaging it.

In other recent SpaceX news, Musk revealed that there is a competing team in Florida that is also building a Starship Hopper prototype.

Through Twitter, Musk wrote that the teams must share any insights during the building, though neither team must incorporate the other’s idea.
