Mendez is next mayor, City Commission gets two new commissioners

The runoff results are in: Brownsville has a new mayor and two new commissioners.

Trey Mendez beat out former city manager Charlie Cabler by capturing nearly 60% of the vote.

Mendez, a Texas Southmost College trustee, received 5,877 votes to Cabler's 4,040 for 40.74% of the vote.

Nurith Galonsky, who just won her first bid for election, beat out Brownsville's longest-tenured commissioner Ricardo Longoria Jr. in the District 1 runoff.

Galonsky received 1,068 votes for 53.86% of the total vote to Longoria's 915 votes for 46.14%.

In the City Commission At-Large A seat, John Cowen also received nearly 60% of the vote with 5,856 votes to Jessica Puente Bradshaw's 3,955 votes, of 40.31%.
