GALVESTON (AP) — Galveston County officials are recommending people on the low-lying Bolivar Peninsula leave in anticipation of high water and heavy rains from a storm brewing in the Gulf of Mexico off the Texas coast.

BELIZE CITY (AP) — Hurricane Richard slammed into Belize's Caribbean coast just south of its largest city late Sunday, as authorities evacuated tourists from outlying islands and an estimated 10,000 people took refuge at shelters in the tiny Central American nation.

19th tropical depression forms in Caribbean Sea

MIAMI (AP) — Forecasters say a tropical depression has formed in the northwestern Caribbean Sea and that it would likely strengthen into a tropical storm over the next couple days.

The National Hurricane Center says winds late Wednesday night were sustained at about 35 mph. The storm was about 125 miles south of Grand Cayman. It is expected to move south then west over the next two days.

The depression is the 19th of the Atlantic season. It is forecast to dump 5 to 10 inches or more of rain over Jamaica.

Two to 4 inches are possible over the Cayman Islands.
