Triumph Public High Schools revealed its new name, logo and brand at a recent unveiling ceremony at the charter school district’s Brownsville campus at 944 E. Los Ebanos Blvd.

The district was formerly known Mid-Valley Academy Public Charter High Schools. It’s Brownsville campus opened in August.

“It’s time for change,” Superintendent Frances Berrones Johnson, who also serves as CEO, said in a news release. “Change is how we define progress and progress is growth. It was time to focus on who we are and convey this to our prospective students and families. This new brand resonates exactly who we are; together we can face the challenges of change.”

Principal Yolanda Chamberlin said the Brownsville campus and the district continue to grow. The Brownsville campus has 51 students currently and a target enrollment of 130, she said. The district focuses on providing alternative learning programs that cater to at-risk students.

The roll-out of the new name and brand is being implemented in phases, with the first in the Rio Grande Valley, where the district currently has schools in McAllen, Mercedes, San Benito and Brownsville.

Other Triumph Public High School campuses are located in Laredo, El Paso and Lubbock.

“We’re an accredited free public high school. Our students still have to pass all of the state assessments,” Berrones-Johnson said previously. “We’re hoping to be able to offer something really special to Brownsville. We feel we have an incredible program for the youth of Brownsville.”

Triumph schools offer students a non-traditional setting in which teachers are free to be creative and innovative, and students are free to explore their full potential with flexible morning and afternoon scheduling, administrative guidance and a more one-on-one approach to guidance, the district stated in a news release.
