Patriot Golf Day on tap this weekend at Rancho Viejo

Comments 0 | Recommend 0

Rancho Viejo Resort & Country Club is one of approximately 4,000 golf facilities around the country participating in this weekend's Patriot Golf Day.

The event runs Sept. 4-7 nationally and is presented by the Folds of Honor Foundation as a fundraiser to provide post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled in the line of duty. It is jointly supported by the Professional Golf Association and United States Golf Association.

Patriot Golf Day began in 2007 with approximately 3,400 golf facilities nationally involved. This will be the first time the event is staged at Rancho Viejo.

"Ted Trapp, owner of Rancho Viejo, saw this as a good way to support our troops," said Robert Lindsay, sales and marketing representative for the resort. "We're asking everyone who may be planning to play golf in the Valley this weekend to consider playing at Rancho Viejo for a worthy cause. We just hope the weather will cooperate for us."

Lindsay said Trapp is a World War II navy veteran who saw Patriot Golf Day as an excellent opportunity to raise educational funds for deserving recipients.

"Normally, we're a private facility and not open to the public," said Mario Silva, Rancho Viejo pro shop employee. "For this event, we're opening the doors and inviting the public to come and play."

Beginning Friday and running through Monday, golfers can play 18 holes plus share a cart for $42. All golfers will be asked to make at least a $1 donation that will go to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Lindsay said Trapp plans to donate half of every $42 received to the organization.
