No. 2 Scorpions end regular season with three-match road trip

After the most successful weekend in the history of University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College volleyball, the Scorpions make one last road trip to North Texas and Oklahoma to end the 2010 regular season.

The No. 2 Scorpions (29-1, 12-0 RRAC) face Southwestern Assemblies of God (16-14, 7-4) in a Red River Athletic Conference match at 7 p.m. Thursday in Waxahachie.

Following the SAGU match, the Scorpions head north to Oklahoma to face Bacone College at 7 p.m. Friday for their final conference match of the season. They then go to Oklahoma City for a non-conference match against No. 20 Oklahoma Baptist of the Sooner Athletic Conference.

The Scorpions jumped to the No. 2 position in the newest NAIA poll after winning three matches in California over top 10 teams, including previously top-ranked Fresno Pacific, the three-time defending national champion.

Another milestone was reached when Scorpions setter Tamires Ferreira was named NAIA national player of the week for her performance in California. Ferreira was also named RRAC player of the week.

After the weekend series, the Scorpions will be the top seed in the RRAC Tournament on Nov. 13 and 14 in Fort Worth. The tournament winner qualifies for the NAIA national championships.
