Scorpions hit the road looking for wins
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College soccer and volleyball teams look for success away from home this weekend.
Coming off Tuesday's victories at Huston-Tillotson University to open Red River Athletic Conference play, the UTB-TSC men's and women's soccer squads travel to Oklahoma to play NAIA nationally ranked non-conference foes Oklahoma City University and Southern Nazarene University.
They play at OCU today and at Southern Nazarene on Saturday. The women play at 2 p.m. and the men at 4 p.m. both days.
"I hope we can continue rolling," UTB-TSC men's soccer coach Dan Balaguero said. "The schedule gets very busy beginning this week, so we need to go into that period with confidence."
The Scorpion men (5-2) defeated Huston-Tillotson 3-1 Tuesday behind a pair of goals from Brian Hardie. The UTB-TSC women (3-1-1) rolled past H-T 6-0 as Julia Dell' Aquila led the way with two goals.
After this weekend, the Scorpion soccer squads return home for a conference doubleheader at Morningside Park Oct. 4 against Northwood University beginning at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, the UTB-TSC volleyball team will be looking for its first victory of the season this weekend in Houston.
The Scorpions (0-11) have two non-conference matches scheduled at St. Thomas University on Saturday. The first one at 11 a.m. will be against St. Thomas, and the second at 1:30 p.m. will be against Loyola University.
UTB-TSC travels to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. non-conference match.
The Scorpion men's and women's golf teams aren't scheduled to play until Oct. 6-7 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational.
