Scorpions' NAIA tourney schedule announced
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College has been seeded second for the NAIA women's volleyball national championships to be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 4 at the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa.
The Scorpions, who finished the season with a 34-1 record, have been placed in Pool B with 11th-seeded Concordia University (Calif.), 14th-seeded Doane University (Neb.) and 23rd-seeded St. Ambrose University (Iowa).
Pool play matches will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 30 through Dec. 2. The top two teams in each pool advance to the championship bracket on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 and 4. There are six pools in the 24-team tournament.
The Scorpions, who finished second in the final NAIA coaches top 25 poll released last week, will play Tuesday, Nov. 30, 5:45 p.m., vs. St. Ambrose; Wednesday, Dec. 1, 5:45 p.m., vs. Doane; and Thursday, Dec. 2, 8 p.m., vs. Concordia.
Last year, UTB-TSC advanced to the quarterfinals, where they were eliminated by eventual national champion Fresno Pacific (Calif.).
Lee University (Tenn.) is the top seed, followed by the Scorpions, Fresno Pacific, Northwestern (Iowa), Columbia (Mo.) and California Baptist. Each of those teams is tops in its pool.
