Scorpions begin play in Red River Athletic Conference Tournament
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College begins play in the Red River Athletic Conference volleyball tournament Friday against Huston-Tillotson on the host team's floor.
The Scorpions (9-22, 7-5), the defending tournament champions, and HTU (10-19, 7-5), the fifth-seeded team, meet at 1:30 p.m. in a quarterfinal matchup.
Texas Wesleyan (13-25, 9-2), seeded third, meets Bacone College (13-18, 4-7), seeded sixth, in the other quarterfinal at 11 a.m. Top-seeded Southwestern Assemblies of God (22-10, 10-1) and second-seeded Wiley College (30-7, 11-1) received byes into the semifinal round.
Wiley will meet the winner of the TWU-Bacone match at 6 p.m., and SAGU will meet the winner of the UTB-TSC-HTU match in the other semifinal at 8:30 p.m.
The semifinal winners meet at 1:30 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship and advance to the NAIA national tournament starting Saturday, Nov. 22.
