Scorpions' soccer semifinals set
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College men’s and women’s soccer teams play for berths in the Red River Athletic Conference championship games when they play in semifinal games Friday at Martin Field on the campus of Texas Wesleyan in Fort Worth.
The Scorpion women (9-4-2), who finished second during the regular season, face host and third-seeded TWU in one semifinal at 3 p.m. Friday. The winner advances to the title game at 7 p.m. Saturday against the winner of the other semifinal matching top-seeded Northwood and fourth-seeded Our Lady of the Lake.
The Scorpions came from behind late to defeat TWU in their only meeting of the season, 2-1, on Oct. 10 in Fort Worth.
UTB-TSC’s men’s team (15-0-1), ranked 14th, take on fifth-seeded Texas College (6-8) in a semifinal pairing at 5 p.m. Friday. Third-seeded Our Lady of the Lake meets second-seeded Huston-Tillotson in the other semifinal. The winners meet at 5 p.m. Saturday for the tournament championship.
In their lone meeting of the season, the Scorpions downed Texas College 3-1 Oct. 15 in Brownsville.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
Scorpions aim to end regular season strong
With the most important season looming, the No. 9 University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College women’s volleyball team looks to close out an incredible regular season when the Scorpions face two road opponents Friday and Saturday.
UTB-TSC (27-1) faces Southwestern Assemblies of God at 4 p.m. Friday in Waxahachie and then takes on Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m. Saturday in Fort Worth.
The Scorpions have won 24 straight matches. Their only loss this year was by a 3-1 score to Georgetown College (Ky.) on Aug. 28 in Savannah, Ga.
UTB-TSC is 14-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play, and has won all 14 matches by 3-0 scores. Texas Wesleyan(15-15, 9-5) is tied for fourth place in conference.
The Scorpions are guaranteed to be the No. 1 seed in the Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament from Nov. 13 to 14 in Fort Worth.
UTB-TSC has moved up to No. 4 in the nation in hitting percentage with a .325 mark.
