Scorpions men's soccer rises to No. 14
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College women’s volleyball team remained ninth in the newest NAIA coaches top 25 poll released Tuesday, but the Scorpions’ men’s soccer team moved up one spot to No. 14 in the nation.
UTB-TSC (27-1) was one vote away from the No. 8 ranking. The Scorpions received 536 votes to trail College of Idaho, which had 537 votes. The previous two weeks, the Scorpions had 512 votes and 516 votes.
Fresno Pacific University (Calif.) continues to lead the nation as the top-ranked team. The Sunbirds are the only unbeaten team at 27-0. UTB-TSC has the second-best record in the country at 27-1 and is the only one-loss team in the nation.
UTB-TSC has only two matches remaining in the regular season. The Scorpions play at 4 p.m. Friday at Southwestern Assemblies of God and at 11 a.m. Saturday at Texas Wesleyan. The Red River Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 13 and 14 in Fort Worth.
The Scorpions men’s soccer team (15-0-1) is among only six unbeaten teams in the nation. UTB-TSC received 373 votes, 19 more than the 354 votes the Scorpions received last week.
Bethel University (Tenn.) leads the national rankings for the 10th straight week and holds a 29-game unbeaten streak.
UTB-TSC begins play in the Red River Athletic Conference men’s soccer tournament at 5 p.m. Friday in a semifinal matchup. The tournament championship game is scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday.
