Scorpions volleyball to play regular-season home finale
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College women’s volleyball team wraps up the home portion of its schedule at 7 p.m. Friday when the Scorpions play host to Bacone College.
No. 9 UTB-TSC has eclipsed expectations this year, posting an incredible 26-1 record and winning 23 straight matches.
More amazing is the fact the Scorpions have won 21 matches by 3-0 scores, including all 13 Red River Athletic Conference matches thus far. The other five wins came by 3-1 margins.
Friday’s match also will mark the final home game for senior setter Daianarah Bracero from Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico. Bracero holds the NAIA school record for assists in a match, season and career. After a 2007 season with 1,880 assists, she has posted 890 more in 2009 for a total of 2,770 in her career.
Bacone (4-18) is 2-8 in conference matches.
The Scorpions have two more regular-season matches remaining on the road Nov. 6 and 7. They will be participating in the RRAC Tournament in Fort Worth Nov. 13 and 14 and hope to qualify for the NAIA national championship tournament Dec. 1 through 5 in Sioux City, Iowa.
