Scorpions host University of Houston-Victoria for three-game series
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College looks to return to the win column during a three-game series against the University of Houston-Victoria on Friday and Saturday at Scorpion Field.
The Scorpions (1-7) face a Jaguars (4-4) team that finished its first year in the NAIA in 2008 with a 29-5 record. UHV was ranked No. 29 in the preseason poll but has almost an entirely new team this year.
Scorpions coach Bryan Aughney is expected to start Julian Moya (1-1), Danny Gidora (0-2) and Tony Lerma (0-2) during the three-game series.
The series marks the end of 11 straight home games to start the 2009 season. UTB-TSC went 1-3 against Wayland Baptist and 0-4 against Lubbock Christian, the fifth-ranked NAIA team.
Junior outfielder Ryan Macdonald leads the Scorpions with a .333 batting average, a mark shared by freshman outfielder Peter Maldonado, who broke into the starting lineup in two games against LCU.
Outfielder Jacob Yousif, who has two triples, holds a .300 batting average with a minimum of eight at-bats.
