UTB-TSC: Scorpions women finish 12th at UMHB Invitational
TEMPLE - Scores improved for the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College women's golf team during the second day of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational, but the Scorpions still finished in 12th place at Wildflower Country Club on Tuesday.
UTB-TSC shot 358 after an opening-round 381 for a 739 score. McLennan Community College won the tournament with a 634 score. Fourteen teams competed.
"The girls increased their focus, played harder, and concentrated more," Scorpions coach Anthony Lopez said. "We still have a few things to work on before our next tournament. I'm confident that with the work we put in, we can be a contender in our next tournament."
Almost every member of the team improved scores on the second day.
Elizabeth Garza shot 86 after an 88 Monday for a 174 score to lead the Scorpions, and Krystal Garza improved from a 94 to an 88 for a 182. Andrea Cadriel finished with a 189, and Eneida Alonso finished with 194, including her best round of the season with an 89.

The Scorpions next participate in the Bluebonnet Invitational in DeSoto, hosted by Northwood University. UTB-TSC will compete in the NAIA National Qualifier Tournament on April 19 to complete the regular season.
