Gidora sharp again; Scorpions find offense in victory over Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN — Danny Gidora was sharp for the fourth straight time and his University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College teammates erupted offensively in a 15-1 win over Huston-Tillotson in a Red River Athletic Conference game Friday at Downs Field.

The two teams meet in a doubleheader at noon Saturday to wrap up the three-game series. The games will mark the final ones in an 11-game road stretch for the Scorpions.

Friday’s game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Gidora (4-0) went only five innings for the Scorpions (11-3, 6-1 RRAC), gave up four hits, struck out four and did not walk a batter. He has now pitched 24 innings this year and has allowed only one earned run. His ERA is 0.36.

Baylr Bickerton pitched a scoreless sixth inning, and Chris Raley allowed an unearned run in the seventh.

The Scorpions scored twice during the first inning and five runs during the fourth inning to blow the game open. An eight-run sixth inning made it 15-1 at the time.

HTU (3-4, 3-4) scored its lone run in the fourth when Howard Limuell doubled, stole third, and came home on a passed ball.

UTB-TSC had 15 hits in the game, a season high, and drove in 13 runs. Jorge Camorlinga went 3 for 3 and scored three runs, while Joel Fernandez, Matt Warner, Gilberto Puente and Nick Loftis each had two hits. Warner also scored three runs while Puente and Loftis each scored twice.
