MEN’S SOCCER

Scorpions place perfect record on the line

UTB-TSC looks to keep focus and an unbeaten men’s soccer season when the 17th-ranked Scorpions visit Texas Wesleyan at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin Field.

The Scorpions, the two-time defending Red River Athletic Conference champions, return to the site of their 2008 championship. UTB-TSC (8-0-1, 2-0) is tied for the conference lead with Huston-Tillotson.

Texas Wesleyan (8-4, 1-2) started the season with a 6-0 record. The Rams lost a 3-2 heartbreaker to Our Lady of the Lake in the final 20 seconds of the second overtime period.

UTB-TSC started the week Thursday by traveling 14 hours to Hobbs, N.M., for a Friday meeting with University of the Southwest. The Scorpions won 2-0 and then got on the bus for a seven-hour drive to Fort Worth. The return home will take nine hours.

The shutout win over USW was the fourth of the season and second straight for the Scorpions.

Saturday’s game will be the last of a seven-game road stretch. UTB-TSC returns home Oct. 15 to meet Texas College at REK Center Field.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Scorpions women set for battle with TWU

UTB-TSC faces another big hurdle in its quest for women's soccer success when the Scorpions meet conference leader Texas Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin Field.

The Scorpions (4-3-2, 1-0-1 RRAC), fresh off a 3-0 win over University of the Southwest on Thursday at Hobbs, N.M., face a TWU team that is 9-3 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

UTB-TSC and Texas Wesleyan’s games have been close in 2007 and 2008. The two teams shared the RRAC regular season title with Northwood last year.

TWU defeated Our Lady of the Lake 2-1 in the final 15 seconds of regulation Thursday night. Last week, the Scorpions tied OLLU 0-0 in San Antonio.

UTB-TSC started this road trip with an impressive win over a USW team that was 7-2 and had recorded seven straight shutouts.

Saturday's game will wrap up a string of seven straight road games for the Scorpions, who return home to face Texas College at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15.
