WASHINGTON — Andy Roddick's first action since his loss to Roger Federer in the Wimbledon final will come at the Legg Mason Tennis Classic.

Roddick wrote on his Twitter feed Tuesday: "keep getting asked when my next tourney will be.... i will see all of u in washington in two weeks."

The 2003 U.S. Open champion, who has a home in Austin, Texas, tumbled to the grass in the fourth set against Federer on July 5 at Wimbledon. Roddick went on to play for more than another 1½ hours, finally losing 16-14 in the longest fifth set in Grand Slam final history.

Citing a right hip flexor injury, Roddick pulled out of the U.S. Davis Cup team's quarterfinal at Croatia, then this week's ATP event at Indianapolis.

The Washington hard-court tournament is Aug. 2-9.

2nd-seeded Medina Garrigues out at Slovenia Open

PORTOROZ, Slovenia — Second-seeded Anabel Medina Garrigues was ousted by qualifier Vesna Manasieva 6-3, 1-6, 7-5 in the first round of the Slovenia Open on Tuesday.

Manasieva came through qualifying for only the second time this year — after Wimbledon — for her first win on the main tour since last September. It was the qualifier's 20th birthday.

She'll face wild card Petra Martic in the second round.

Also advancing was qualifier Ksenia Pervak, who overcame Julia Georges 6-4, 4-6, 6-2.

Pervak will face Dinara Safina, who made her first appearance since losing in the Wimbledon semifinals to Venus Williams.

Fourth-seeded Roberta Vinci easily beat Nastja Kolar 6-2, 6-0, and seventh-seeded Vera Dushevina allowed Tathiana Garbin only three games in winning 6-0, 6-3.

Fifth-seeded Sara Errani beat Arantxa Rus 6-1, 6-0, while eighth-seeded Petra Kvitova fought for nearly three hours to defeat Galina Voskoboeva 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4).

Also advancing were Maria Elena Camerin and Camille Pin.

Navarro beats Robredo at German Open

HAMBURG — Top-seeded Gilles Simon of France was eliminated from the German Open on Tuesday, losing to German wild card Daniel Brands 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the second round.

Simon was lost in the second round as the top-seeded player for the second straight week. That upset came at the Mercedes Cup in Stuttgart.

Ivan Navarro beat fourth-seeded Tommy Robredo 7-5, 7-6 (2) in an all-Spanish match. Another Spaniard, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, ousted fifth-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland 6-2, 6-4.

Robredo was the only returning champion in the field, having won the Hamburg clay-court event in 2006. He lost to a 27-year-old journeyman who has never won an ATP title.

In another upset, qualifier Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay beat ninth-seeded Jurgen Melzer of Austria 7-6 (5), 6-3.

No. 8 Philipp Kohlschreiber defeated qualifier Potito Starace of Italy 6-2, 4-6, 6-4; No. 10 Viktor Troicki of Serbia rallied past Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia 3-6, 6-2, 6-4; and No. 13. Paul-Henri Mathieu of France struggled to overcome Spanish qualifier Pere Riba 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (3).

In the first round, Julien Benneteau of France beat Juan Ignacio Chela of Argentina 6-4, 1-6, 6-1; Juan Monaco of Argentina defeated Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 7-6 (4), 6-3; and Florian Mayer downed Rainer Schuettler 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-3 in a match between Germans.

Top-seeded Cornet survives 1st rd at Bad Gastein

BAD GASTEIN, Austria — Top-seeded Alize Cornet of France rallied to beat Mariana Duque Marino of Colombia 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 in the first round of the Nuernberger Gastein Ladies on Tuesday.

Cornet dropped her serve three times in the opening set and trailed 6-5 in the second before prevailing for only her second win since the French Open, and her fifth win in the last five months.

Cornet will next play Patricia Mayr of Austria, hoping to string two wins together for the first time since mid-February at Dubai.

Mayr defeated Lourdes Dominguez Lino of Spain 6-3, 6-3.

Eighth-seeded Lucie Hradecka of the Czech Republic, who reached the final in Bad Gastein last year as a qualifier, was upset by Nuria Llagostera Vives of Spain 6-2, 6-2.

Defending champion Pauline Parmentier of France routed Carmen Klaschka of Germany 6-1, 6-1.

Third-seeded Sybille Bammer, who won her second WTA Tour title at the Prague Open on Sunday, double-faulted seven times and lost three of her service games, but still defeated Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia 7-5, 6-4.

Austria's Yvonne Meusburger, who lost the final here in 2007, defeated Sharon Fichman of Canada, 6-4, 6-4.
