Scorpions to play final home soccer matches of season
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College men's soccer team has a chance to go unbeaten at home this season when the conference-leading Scorpions play host to Bacone College at 1 p.m. Thursday.
UTB-TSC (7-4, 3-0 Red River Athletic Conference) is 5-0 at Morningside Park in 2008.
"I think we're headed in the right direction," said UTB-TSC men's soccer coach Dan Balaguero, whose squad is coming off a 2-0 home victory Oct. 8 against Texas Wesleyan. "Hopefully by the time we get to November we'll be a little closer to where we need to be."
Bacone (4-8, 2-3) is coming off last Thursday's 2-1 win over Texas College.
The Scorpions women (4-4-1, 2-1) also play their final home match at 3 p.m. today against a Bacone team (4-7, 3-2) that beat Texas College 1-0 in its last outing. Last week, the UTB-TSC women suffered their first loss at home this season, falling 2-1 to Texas Wesleyan.
"It was a very tough one to swallow, but we have to move on," Scorpions women's soccer coach Nikola "Nik" Barjaktarevic said. "Now we have to be perfect and make sure to win all our other conference games. Nothing is lost for us, and we should come out very sharp and focused for our last home game."
After today, the UTB-TSC squads play the remainder of their matches on the road leading up to the RRAC Tournament Nov. 6 through 8 in Fort Worth.
The Scorpions men and women are defending RRAC Tournament champions.
