The University of Texas at Brownsville women's volleyball team held its first setter position camp this past week at Manuel Garza Gym.

"It was our first-ever setter camp. Most girls were young and are still learning the game; however I felt that they improved from Day 1 through Day 3," assistant coach Roberta Santos said.

The setter position camp was designed for fundamental skill development at the setter position. This specialty camp focused on setting skill techniques, from the basics of footwork and hand contact to the advanced offensive play, covering the court, decision-making and repetition. The camp was designed for high school players.

The camp was led by Santos and coach Todd Lowery.

"I hope with what they learned today they can use during their upcoming volleyball season in the fall," Santos said.

The UTB volleyball team will hold a second camp this summer.

The all-skills Camp will be held July 12 through 14. Morning session is set from 9 until 11 a.m. for participants ages 9 through 13, with an 8:30 a.m. check-in. The afternoon session will be for those ages 14 through 18 and will run from 1 until 3 p.m. (12:30 p.m. check-in).

The cost for the all-skills camp is $65. Late registration is available.
