COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M used a late first-half surge to defeat Jackson State 96-78 on Friday night.
With five minutes remaining to the break, the Aggies led the Tigers 32-31. They closed out the half on a 19-5 tear as forward Bryan Davis scored eight points and shooting guard Josh Carter added five in the decisive stretch.
Carter, a senior from Dallas, led the Aggies with 25 points. He was 5 of 8 from the 3-point line in tying the school record for career 3-pointers. Carter now has 232 total 3-pointers, equaling the mark set by Bernard King from 1999-2003.
The Tigers (0-2), who lost at LSU 79-65 on Nov. 15, were led by Grant Maxey with a game-high 28 points.

Player, Jones score 13 in Baylor win over SFA
WACO - Jhasmin Player and Melissa Jones each scored 13 points, Rachel Allison added 11, and No. 10 Baylor beat Stephen F. Austin 77-42 on Friday night.
Stephen F. Austin (2-1) scored first on Tammara Marion's jumper, but the Lady Bears then went on 28-1 run over the next 14 minutes to put away the game. Player scored eight points during the run, and Baylor (3-0) led 41-9 at halftime.
Whitney Cormier led SFA with 11 points. Ebony Alexander, who led the Ladyjacks with 13 points per game, was held to just three on 1-of-8 shooting.
Barncastle scores 14 points in Tech win over Lamar
LUBBOCK - Jordan Barncastle scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Texas Tech to a 59-50 win over Lamar on Friday night.
Both teams had poor shooting. The game had to be won from the free-throw line.
Texas Tech (3-0) made 11-of-17 free throws while Lamar (1-1) barely made it to the charity stripe, hitting 1-of-2 shots all night.
Nikki Williams led all scorers with 18 points for Lamar, while Brittney Williams and Emily Spickler each chipped in 11.
Dominic Seals scored 12 for Texas Tech and Tilmila Martin added 11.
