Wiley hands UTB-TSC two losses

Wiley College handed the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College two one-run losses, earning 6-5 and 4-3 Red River Athletic Conference victories Saturday at Scorpion Field.

UTB-TSC ended RRAC play with a 9-3 conference record. Wiley College (5-3) can still tie the Scorpions for the RRAC South Division regular-season crown.

The Scorpions (25-24) have one home game remaining at 6 p.m. Tuesday against Texas A&M International.

The two one-run losses brought the total number of one-run losses for the Scorpions to nine for the season. All three losses in conference games have come by one run.

"We didn't come in ready to play today," Scorpions coach Bryan Aughney said. "We thought we could just show up and win two games."

Scorpions ace Julian Moya had an off day, allowing 10 hits and four earned runs. However, he had one of his best strikeout days, fanning 11 while walking two. Tony Lerma pitched the final inning and took the loss.

Jorge Camorlinga led the Scorpions with three hits, with Brian Bustos collecting two. Bustos also drove in two runs.
