Other College Sports Capsules: Central Arkansas hires soccer assistant coach
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — A Central Arkansas graduate will return to his alma mater to serve as an assistant coach for the women's soccer team. Head coach Jeremy Bishop on Tuesday announced the hiring of Derek Nichols.
Nichols spent eight years as head soccer coach at Newman University, an NCAA Division II school in Wichita, Kan. He guided the Jets to their first 10-win season as a Division II program in 2010, and led them to a 12-4-1 record in 2006.
Nichols played in 36 games for the Bears in 1996 and 1997, and worked as a graduate assistant for the men's program from 2001 to 2002.
The 2002 team finished with a 17-2-2 record and lost in the national semi-final to eventual national champion Sonoma State.
Mary losing women's soccer head coach to Wyoming
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — University of Mary women's soccer coach Levi Evans is leaving after eight years at the Bismarck school to become an assistant at Wyoming.
Evans is returning to his home state and joining the staff of Pete Cuadrado, who left North Dakota State University earlier this year after nine years in Fargo to become the head coach at Wyoming.
Evans helped the Marauders soccer program transition from NAIA competition to NCAA Division II. He now moves up to the Division I ranks at Wyoming.
