Huntley Resigns as UTB-TSC Director of Athletics

Dan Huntley, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics at UTB-TSC, has submitted his letter of resignation, effective August 8.

Huntley, who has served as Director of Athletics since August 2005, has accepted the position of Director of Athletics at Concordia University Texas in Austin.

"It has been a wonderful experience being part of the Scorpion athletic department during the last three years," Huntley said. "We have successfully transitioned from the NJCAA to the NAIA and the Red River Athletic Conference and are seeing the fruits of the vision for student-athlete graduation. Our coaches have worked hard to provide an environment that expects success in the classroom and on the field or court."

Under Huntley's tenure, Scorpion Athletics has transitioned from a two-year program to a four-year program, gaining acceptance into the NAIA and the Red River Athletic Conference. Men's and women's soccer were added in fall 2007.

The Scorpions were very successful in the 2007-08 campaign. Highlights included:

women's volleyball: captured conference and regional championships and finished fifth in the NAIA

men's soccer: conference regular season and tournament champions and advanced to the regional semifinals

women's soccer: conference tournament champions and advanced to the regional quarterfinals

men's baseball: conference tournament semifinalists

"I wish nothing but the best for success for our teams this season as they defend or chase conference and national championships," Huntley said. "Many individuals and businesses that have been supportive of our programs. We could not have had the success we have accomplished without their generosity."

Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Hilda Silva was thankful for Huntley's work at UTB/TSC.

"Our athletics programs have done some great things in the last three years, and much of the credit has to go to Dan," Silva said. "We'll miss his energy, enthusiasm, and hard work. Everybody on campus wishes him the best of luck in future endeavors."

Silva said a search for Huntley's successor would begin immediately.
