Federal authorities in Mexico announced the capture of an assassin from Matamoros that worked with the Gulf Cartel.
Reyes “La Bruja” Peña Moreno, 30, was arrested last week in Tampico by the Mexican Federal Police (PFP), a press release stated.
The arrest took place while PFP officers were following up on tips about unusual activity in a house near Calle Faja de Oro, the release stated.
Through surveillance, police officers spotted Peña coming out of the house with several weapons and immediately arrested him, documents show.
Among the items seized were four AR-15 assault rifles, one grenade, 943 ammunition rounds, eight loaded magazines, two bulletproof vests, four cell phones and 10 radios as well as several credit cards.
According to PFP reports, Peña is part of a group of assassins called the Calimanes who provide security and perform hits for the leaders of the Gulf Cartel.
The report also states that Peña received advanced tactical training in a Gulf Cartel ranch where he trained in advance methods of warfare focusing on fighting other armed groups in urban settings.
