Tropical system is now Tropical Storm Don
The National Hurricane Center has announced that the tropical system heading toward the Gulf of Mexico is now Tropical Storm Don.
Don has slowed down some and is now moving west-northwest at 12 mph. It has maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
The center of the storm is about 755 miles east-southeast of Corpus Christi.
Officials report that on its current track, the center of Don should move through the Southern and Central Gulf of Mexico tonight and Thursday. It should approach the coast of the Northwestern Gulf of Mexico on Friday.
Gradual strenghtening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Forecasters said Wednesday that it doesn't appear the storm will strengthen into a hurricane. No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.
