Hard freeze warning tonight; wind chill to reach 14
The National Weather Service officials say radar is indicating development of sleet and snow pellets from Port Isabel to Brownsville, with a hard freeze lasting longer than first predicted and the wind chill dropping as well.
Most of the sleet is in the clouds, but some could reach the ground before sunset.
The wind chill fell to 20 to 25 degrees this morning and slowly rose to 30 degrees later in the day, but tonight it will feel much colder.
HARD FREEZE PREDICTED TONIGHT
The NWS is forecasting a hard freeze for the entire Valley tonight, including the city of Brownsville.
Tonight’s lows will dip from 23 to 28 degrees. Factor in the wind gusts of 20 mph and the wind chill is expected to drop to 14 degrees.
A freeze warning went into effect two hours earlier then first expected Friday night and will last until 11 a.m. this morning. A freeze watch will be in place tonight through Sunday morning.
Temperatures were expected to drop well below freezing for at least 12 hours Friday and not rise above freezing until this morning.
A BIT WARMER ON SUNDAY
The sun is expected to shine on Sunday with a high near 60. Sunday night the forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 44.
WEAR EXTRA CLOTHES
If you must be out in the cold, wear extra clothing. Layered clothing is advised to better insulate the body.
