Tropical Storm Hermine leaves the Valley

A flash flood watch remains in effect for coastal Cameron, Willacy and Kenedy counties today as the remnants of Tropical Storm Hermine continue to linger in the area.

The watch remains in effect until this evening as there’s 40 percent chance of showers for today, said Alfredo Vega, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service Office in Brownsville.

Hermine is expected to be downgraded to a tropical depression later today.

The tropical storm made landfall south of Brownsville Monday night bringing heavy rains to some parts of the area and strong winds.

The majority of the heavier rains remained offshore and was dropped in isolated areas in Cameron and Willacy counties, Vega said.

The following rainfall amounts were reported: Brownsville at 2.96 inches; Harlingen 2.44 inches; Port Isabel 3.3 inches; Raymondville 2.31 inches and Santa Rosa 3.15 inches.
