Causeway repairs near end
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND —The maintenance project conducted by the Texas Department of Transportation on the Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge is near completion, the agency reported Friday.
The contractor has completed all structural repairs and painting procedures and has started demobilizing the platform underneath the causeway, TxDOT said.
The Queen Isabella Memorial Bridge maintenance project consisted of removing any rust, repairing eroded ar-eas and re-painting the metal beams that support the highest point of the causeway.
The project is considered regular maintenance that is completed every 10 to 15 years to preserve the integrity and extend the overall life of the bridge.
