REYNOSA - Authorities arrested two men and freed three apparent kidnapping victims over the weekend, according to a Mexican military statement.

The arrests were made at Fraccionamiento Villa Florida, near the intersection of Calle Laureles Tabachines and Jacarandas, a statement from the Mexican national defense secretary reads.

Soldiers said they encountered a truck with two people in the front seats and two people with their heads covered and hands bound.

After the truck's driver noticed the soldiers, the driver bailed from the vehicle and ran inside a house, leaving the door half open, authorities said.

From inside the house, Mexican army soldiers could hear people calling for help, according to the statement from the military. After entering the house, the soldiers found three Mexican males inside who appeared to be captives:

>> Ramón Onate Saldierna Rosas, 34, of Matamoros.

>> Roberto Martinez Santiago, 33, of Panuco, Ver.

>> Mireles Omar Alejandro Morales, 17, of Ciudad Diaz Ordaz, Tamps.

Soldiers arrested Gerardo Moreno Joseph Perez, 41, and Pabys Alberto Contreras Saldaña, 31. Both men are from Nuevo Laredo, Tamps., authorities said.

Authorities also seized a pistol, ammunition, ammunition magazines and two vehicles registered in Tamaulipas state.
