OSHA honors Brownsville ship recycler
All Star Metals, a ship recycling company at the Port of Brownsville, has received the Voluntary Protection Programs designation from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in recognition efforts to create a safe and healthy working environment.
The VPP designation is the first given to any ship recycler in the United States. Michael Rivera, OSHA’s area director in Corpus Christi, was slated to present the award today at a midday port ceremony.
Orlando Gotay, deputy maritime administrator, was also slated to attend. A spokesman for All Star Metals said the awards highlights the company’s commitment to proper disposal and recycling of ships and its efforts to create a safe workplace.
