Deputies: Man arrested for stabbing his grandfather
The Cameron County Sheriff’s Department arrested a man accused of stabbing his grandfather in the neck, records show.
Juan Hernandez, 18, was arrested early Friday morning at an area near Robertson Road and U.S. Highway 281, and later charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, court records show.
Later that day, Hernandez went before a Cameron County Magistrate Judge who set his bond at $25,000.
The arrest took place when sheriff’s deputies were called to the 100 block of Robertson Street in regards to a stabbing.
At the residence, deputies met with a 63-year-old man who said his grandson stabbed him, records show.
The stabbing took place when the victim caught Hernandez trying to break into his brother’s home on the 500 block of Robertson Street, the report states.
When the victim ordered Hernandez to stop, the teen went after his grandfather with a kitchen knife and after a brief struggle, stabbed him once in the neck, records show.
After the stabbing, Hernandez ran toward U.S. Highway 281, while the victim went to a neighbor’s house to ask for help.
The victim was transported to a local hospital but left shortly after he refused medical attention, records show.
