More rain today

The Lower Rio Grande Valley today can expect a repeat of the drenching that the area took on Saturday, forecasters said.
A cold front that moved into the Valley over the weekend brought “severe weather,” including strong thunderstorms producing heavy rain and reports of funnel clouds and “large hail” between Rio Hondo and Raymondville, said Joseph Tomaselli, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service station in Brownsville.
“We did indeed have some severe weather in the Valley today,” Tomaselli said Saturday evening.
He said there was no “ground verification” of the reports of hail and funnel clouds.
The downpour dumped 1.4 inches of rain in the Brownsville area, Tomaselli said.
The forecast for today is a 70 percent chance of rain, highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 40s tonight.
Breezy conditions are expected today with winds 20 to 25 mph, Tomaselli said.
The chance for rain diminishes Monday to 30 percent with highs in the mid 60s.
Late Saturday afternoon, the Brownsville Public Utilities Board was reporting power outages in northeast Brownsville, affecting several areas around Ruben M. Torres Boulevard.
An automated message on the PUB hotline reported outages on Ruben M. Torres Boulevard, Aberdeen Drive, Abbey Drive, Woodside Street and other streets.
