Sea lions settle in at zoo
It looks like some of the newest members of the Gladys Porter Zoo family have adjusted well to their new surroundings.
Sea lions Trouble and Cougar have their own exhibit to roam. Even though these two sea lions don't journey around much, they are still enjoying themselves.
"Trouble, the smaller one, ate four fish this morning," said Facilitator Director Jerry Stones. "Now the bigger one, Cougar, can afford to lose about 100 pounds. In fact, I wish he did lose 100 pounds."
The sea lions came from Washington state as part of a program that helps find homes for animals that have become a nuisance to the salmon fishing industry.
"We are hoping to get more sea lions in the future," added Stones.
Both sea lions are in their early teens and, according to Stones, some sea lions can live into their 30s. Trouble and Cougar will have plenty of time to become accustomed to their new home at Gladys Porter Zoo.
"We are very happy to have the sea lions here because we have given them a home and life," said Stones.
