Sandbag distribution begins in Brownsville, Cameron County

Cameron County officials have begun handing out sandbags to residents. The sandbags are being given away at the following locations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

  • Precinct 1 and 2 - 3243 E. 14th St., Brownsville
  • Precinct 3 - FM 510 and San Jose Ranch Rd., San Benito
  • Precinct 4 - 201 North T St., Harlingen

Residents in Brownsville can pick up sandbags starting this evening at the following locations:

  • Public Works yard, 6035 Coffeeport Rd., Brownsville
  • Rivera High School, 6955 FM 802, Brownsville
  • Besteiro Middle School, 6280 Southmost Rd., Brownsville

On Tuesday, the city will add the following locations to distribute sandbags:

  • Vela Middle School, 4905 Paredes Line Rd., Brownsville
  • Yturria Elementary, 2955 Tandy Rd., Brownsville

Residents are entitled to eight filled bags if available or 20 bags if you fill them yourself.

The Town of Rancho Viejo has begun distributing sandbags as well. Sand and sandbags will be made available to Rancho Viejo residents beginning at 4:30 p.m. today at Town Hall.

Residents may pick up the sandbags from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 3301 Carmen Ave.  The sand is available at VMUD No. 2.

There is a six bag limit per household and residents need to show proof of residency.

Meanwhile, empty sandbags are also available at the South Padre Island Public Works maintenance building located at 4501 Padre Blvd. Five empty bags are available per resident and 10 per business.
