"Explosions of Color" art exhibit tonight

"Explosions of Color," which features the abstract work of local artist Esteban Rivera, opens 5 p.m. today at the Children's Museum of Brownsville.

The exhibit, which runs through July 26, is said to be a glimpse into Rivera's mind and his most fervent moods during the past two years.

Rivera, 18, a recent graduate of St. Joseph Academy, sees no reason to paint lifelike forms or to render reality upon his canvas. "Why do that (realism painting) when you have a camera? Do something that comes from your mind," says Rivera.
