Human skeletal remains found in Lyford
Comments 0 | Recommend 0LYFORD - Human skeletal remains were discovered by a landowner on the southeast edge of Lyford between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday, Willacy County Sheriff Larry Spence said.
It was unknown whether the remains were from a man or woman or how long they had been there.
Spence said the area where the remains were found had previously been under water and was near a drainage ditch.
The skeleton may have drifted a short way from somewhere else, he said.
It was unknown whether the remains are those of Josefina Lugo, 68, of Mission, who was reported missing Aug. 23.
Authorities said an arm discovered in a rural Willacy County canal three days after she disappeared belonged to Lugo.
The arm was matched to Lugo through DNA testing, officials said.
Last September, Lugo's husband and stepson were charged with murder in connection with her disappearance.
