Female jogger reports attack near UTB-TSC golf course
The UTB-TSC Police Department has issued a warning to the public to be aware of their surroundings when running on the levee near the school’s golf course.
The warning is in response to a recent incident in which an unidentified man tried to grab a woman that was running in the area near the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College campus.
The incident took place Friday morning when a former student was running and reported that a man with a medium build wearing shorts and a T-shirt grabbed her hand and tried to pull her, said Crime Prevention Officer Pedro Vasquez.
The woman pulled away and fled the area, calling campus police who coordinated their efforts with U.S. Border Patrol in trying to locate the man, Vasquez said.
“It seems the man made his way back to Mexico,” he said.
The woman was not injured in the attempted assault.
Vasquez said police officers constantly patrol the area but advises students and the public to not run in the levee area because it’s isolated and contains a considerable amount of brush where a person can hide.
“We have a sports facility with an indoor running track that students can use,” he said. “If they choose to run outside, they should
be aware of their surroundings and move away from any situation or scenario that doesn’t feel right.”
