Four tons of marijuana seized at bridge
PROGRESO — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than four tons of marijuana hidden in commercial shipments of cucumbers and limes during a 25-hour period at the port of entry here, a press release said Wednesday.
The marijuana was found in two separate incidents, both of which remain under investigation, spokesman Eduardo Perez said.
Officers on Tuesday seized 2,427 pounds of marijuana found in a tractor-trailer hauling a shipment of limes, the press release said. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $2.4 million, the release said.
A day earlier, officers found 1,914 pounds of marijuana, this time in a tractor-trailer with a shipment of cucumbers, the release said. That marijuana had an estimated street value of $1.9 million, the announcement said.
