CBP officer sent to prison for smuggling for sex

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer will spend the next 30 months in a federal prison after he allowed a woman to transport undocumented immigrants across the border in exchange for sexual favors.

Rudy Trace Soliz III, 44, appeared in federal court this morning where he was sentenced to federal prison for alien smuggling and bribery charges, the U.S Attorney’s Office reported.

Soliz pleaded guilty to the charges Aug. 4, 2010. He had been employed with CBP for 11 years and worked at the B & M International Bridge in Brownsville. He resigned from his position on Oct. 29, 2009, the same day he was arrested.

Authorities began investigating Soliz after an informant said that between January and October 2009, a person "had crossed a number of undocumented aliens via a corrupt CBP officer named Rudy Trace Soliz using his inspection lane at B &M International Bridge," court records showed.

Soliz was interviewed by special agents the following day and arrested.
