Police say a mixture of high speed and alcohol resulted in the death of a Brownsville man after a violent one-vehicle car wreck early Tuesday.
According to Brownville police, 24-year-old Esau Alvarado was at the wheel of a 2002 black Chevrolet TrailBlazer driving south on Expressway 77/83 at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday.
When Alvarado SUV neared the 300 block at the East Avenue exit, he hit the right side barricade and the momentum pushed the vehicle to the left side barricade causing it to continually flip afterwards.
"He was partially ejected and was crushed by the vehicle," said police Lt. Orlando Rodriguez. "He was dead at the scene."
According to Rodriguez, the driver was speeding and had a strong odor of alcohol.
The police report indicated that Alvarado did not use the brakes of the SUV before hitting the first barricade causing officers to speculate that he might have fallen asleep at the wheel.
