Police: Burglars strike three warehouses

Brownsville Police are on the lookout for unknown individuals suspected of breaking into three self-storage warehouses and burglarizing nearly 70 units.

The storage bandits began their spree on Oct. 6 at the Best Little Warehouse in Texas at 2825 Rockwell St., where 13 units were burglarized, Police Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique said. The spree continued that same day at the Storage Depot on 3605 North Expressway where another 13 units were burglarized, according to police.

The next day, Rio Storage on 4455 Paredes Line was hit and 20 units were burglarized, police said.

The storage bandits struck Oct. 20 at the same Storage Depot that was burglarized on Oct. 6 and made off with their biggest loot after hitting 23 units, according to police.

Manrrique said the suspects have been disabling the security cameras by facing them the other way and were not presented with any other obstacles other than small chain-linked fences.

"Its very sad, but people pay a lot of money to store their belongings," Manrrique said. "Some of these businesses don't have any security measures and the ones that do are easily bypassed. Their cameras were easily turned away, they didn't have any type of alarms. Their customers deserve better, they expect to have their belongings protected."

Manrrique said that the operations don't look to be very organized, and so far they have been focusing on taking electronics, power-tools and power generators among other random items. He said they at times have left behind items of greater value.

Police do not have any suspects at press time, but believe them to be in their late teens or early 20's.
