Police vehicle swiped, taken to Mexico
LAREDO, Texas (AP) - An unmarked police vehicle was stolen from the driveway of a police investigator and taken to Mexico, authorities said.
Victor Barbarena, an internal affairs investigator and SWAT member, awoke Wednesday morning to discover the unmarked Dodge Durango missing from his driveway, said police spokesman Jose Baeza.
Investigators later found the vehicle in Mexico. It wasn't immediately clear whether anything else had been stolen, police said.
"Right now we are investigating the who, what and where," Baeza said. "The investigation will take time."
He noted that recently there have been a spate of Dodge thefts in the area, allegedly tied to master keys being available. "We are working on that," Baeza said.
