Police: Customs agent arrested speeding to Whataburger

A customs agent was arrested on a reckless driving charge Friday for speeding at more than twice the posted limit to get to a Whataburger early Friday morning, according to a Brownsville police report.
Jail records show off-duty U.S. Customs agent Charles Atkinson, 37, was booked at city jail on the Class B misdemeanor charge at 3:49 a.m. Friday.
An officer saw Atkinson speeding in his Chevrolet Suburban on Paredes Line Road at 2:50 a.m. Friday, according to the police report.
Atkinson almost hit the curb while turning onto FM 802, according to the police report.
Atkinson was speeding 70 mph in a 30 mph zone near the intersection of San Marcelo Boulevard before the officer pulled him over, according to the police report.
Atkinson told the officer he was on his way to get a bite to eat at the Whataburger at FM 802 and U.S. Expressway 77/83.
Jail records show that Atkinson spent 16 minutes in jail before posting a $500 bond issued by Municipal Judge Arturo McDonald.
Father accused of beating bully
Police arrested a Brownsville father on a charge of beating a neighborhood bully who had allegedly assaulted his 10-year-old son Thursday night.
Jail records show that Brownsville police arrested Jose L. Muoz, 38, on an injury to a child charge shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.
Muoz is accused of assaulting a 14-year-old boy after the teen allegedly assaulted his 10-year-old son.
The teenager told police that the 10-year-old boy started the incident.
Muoz admitted to getting into a confrontation with the 14-year-old who he called a neighborhood bully.
Jail records show that Muoz was released on bond Thursday morning.
Brownsville Police Lt. James Paschall said Muoz filed assault charges on behalf of his son against the 14-year-old. The case remains under investigation.
