Man shot in leg in Brownsville during car theft
A Brownsville man was shot in the leg early Thursday by a group of men who allegedly stole his car, a Brownsville police report said.
Officers responded to the 6800 block of El Lago Drive at 12:39 a.m. and found a 24-year-old man lying in the grass with blood on his head and face, the report said.
Before being taken to a local hospital, he told officers that several unknown men stole his black Chevy Tahoe that was parked in front of his home on the 6700 block of Laguna Madre Drive.
He ran after the men until he was shot and left in the area where police found him. He told investigators that the assailants then beat him with a metal pipe, according to the report.
He used his belt as a tourniquet until EMS crews responded.
Officers later spotted his vehicle near one of the international bridges, the report said. They pursued the vehicle, which crashed into several other cars as the driver attempted to fleeing.
Police lost sight of the car, but later recovered it on the 900 block of East Monroe.
Police had made no arrests as of Thursday.
