PAWS offers low-cost pet adoptions
Comments 0 | Recommend 0
Brownsville PAWS will be holding adoptions at a reduced, $50 fee, which includes an animal’s spaying or neutering.
Just stop by from 1- 5 p.m. today or Saturday at the city’s animal shelter at 416 FM 511 in Olmito.
The Brownsville animal shelter is too small to keep the dozens of animals taken in every day. Adopting a pet is a good way for residents to take action and decrease the vast number of animals put down each year, animal advocates said.
The shelter has about 90 dog kennels and more than 65 cat kennels. It takes in 30-40 animals every day; some are picked up as strays by animal control officers, and some are dropped off by good Samaritans or by owners who no longer want their pets.
Each year, the shelter adopts out about 1,500 animals. It has to euthanize another 5,000-6,000 animals.
