Jurors continue deliberations in Padilla trial
Jurors are scheduled to resume deliberations at 9 a.m. today in the trial of Wilfredo Padilla, accused of ordering the murder of Jo Ann Chavez of Harlingen.
The jury spent about six hours Tuesday in deliberations, following the five hours they spent on Monday after hearing closing arguments in the case.
Padilla was allegedly a high-ranking member of a prison gang known as the Mexican Mafia. He is accused of ordering the slaying of Chavez, who disappeared in 2003 and whose remains were found in 2005 in Willacy County.
Nine others are charged in Chavez’s murder. Some of them pleaded guilty and have testified against Padilla.
