CBP: Bridge operations to continue as normal
U.S. Customs and Border Protection will continue regular operations at the four international bridges in Cameron County, despite the storm expected to hit the area on Wednesday.
Contingency plans and a full staff have been put in place at the bridges to ensure regular operations, said CBP spokesman Eduardo Perez.
Last Friday CBP officials met to discuss the plan and on Monday began preparations.
“The safety of our travelers and of our officers is our top priority,” Perez said. “We ask the travelers to please have their documentation in hand when they drive up to the officer and not be fishing for it in their car at that point. ... Have your documents in hand and be ready to answer the same questions that are always asked.”
Gateway International Bridge and B&M International Bridge will continue to process travelers 24 hours a day.
At Veterans International Bridge and Los Indios International Bridge, the hours will remain 6 a.m. to midnight.
